Becoming an Authorpreneur – A Platform for Transformation

A book holds a house of gold – Chinese Proverb

THE AUTHORPRENEUR’S PLATFORM

Who is an authopreneur? The term is a combination of  the words “author” and “entrepreneur.” It refers to an author  who builds a business or creates products and services based on their books for impact and income.

When I prepared to launch my first book, I knew God was giving me a platform for transformation. My mission was to empower people and exalt God through my writing. At times, I did worry about the religious language as many people are anti-religious or anti-Christian in the Western world. I wanted to appeal to people in both the marketplaces and the churches.  I realized other Christian authors had done it without comprising their faith. For example John Maxwell, T.D. Jakes, Zig Ziglar just to name a few. Their examples gave me strength. I also realized that the best-selling book of all times is still the Bible. These facts and examples appeased my fears.

I could not deny who I am in writing. I am not writing for everybody. I am Christian, former missionary and I have an educational background in theology, the sciences and humanities. This is my brand and owning it has given me a unique place of influence. I am able to integrate my training and experiences in my writing. I am also a career coach and a trained teacher. Christian Missions and education have been my primary sectors of influence over the years. These two spheres: schools and churches, continue to provide a platform for impact and income for me.

Since I started writing, new doors opened for me to speak in churches and schools in my home country and other countries across the world. I have been featured in print media, radio and television. I have been invited to many conferences and seminars as a result of my books. My point is this: writing a book can position you to influence and transform lives. The American John Maxwell’s book, 21 Laws of leadership has taken him before world leaders and in the halls of prestigious schools and other institutions. Simon Sinek’s Start with Why has pretty much done the same for him. The Nigerian, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s writings (books) have brought her great renown and even an honorary doctorate.

Writing not only positions you to transform lives in your lifetime, but also long after you are dead. Caribbean sons such as Marcus Garvey and Myles Munroe’s writings (books) continue to transform lives today even though they are dead. The books of the Bible continue to transform the lives of people today although the authors have been dead for centuries. Your books will go to places you never will and touch generations you never will meet.

Since 2015, I have received several letters from readers of my books especially my first book, Heartache Queen Unshackled, telling me how much the book has impacted them. When I wrote that book I was very vulnerable. I shared things that many people would never dare share with others. At times, I began to feel remorseful but whenever a letter comes from a young girl or woman about its impact, I feel justified. Someone is now wiser and stronger for it. If your book can help one person, it’s worth it.

Similarly, it is my hope that this upcoming book, “Becoming An Authorpreneur,” will help aspiring and existing Indie Authors to become wiser and stronger.  May it push you to write fast, publish on a budget and build a platform for impact and income. Someone’s destiny is dependent on your book. Someone’s deliverance is tied to your book. Don’t keep them waiting!
