My Write and Retire Right Journey

On October 13, 2022, I had my first Write and Retire Right seminar at the University of Technology in Kingston, Jamaica.

In that presentation, I recounted the story behind my book, Write and Retire Right. I shared with attendees (online and in person) the process and possibilities to write and retire right via Authorpreneurship  and invited them to join the Vision 2030 Authorpreneurship movement.

My journey began in 2015 with a mid-life crisis and a desire to move from Fear and Frustration to Fulfillment. At age 35, I was behind on my dreams and my bills and brokenhearted.

I was forced to redesign my life and career after a second broken engagement. I decided (following the leading of the Lord) to move from being a donor supported missionary, depending on the financial generosity of others for survival, to becoming self-supported as an author, personal development coach, and speaker.

Little did I know then, how frustrating this process would be until I found myself so broke, I could not find J$500 (US$5) to take a taxi one day. Each month my rent and bills were in jeopardy, but God faithfully provide for my needs every month.

In the ensuing years, feelings of regret and fear engulfed me. I did not want to reach 40 in the same condition.

I should have been married at this stage with a doctorate to my name, driving a fancy car, living in my own home 🏡 and being financially stable. Instead I was educated and struggling to make a living selling books and living like a pauper.

But at age 39, I made a decision to move from nominal to phenomenal; to become fearless and design the next decade for greater.

I wanted my later to be greater. Instead of fearing my future and living in regret, I designed a better sail with God’s help and began to soar to new heights for my next innings.

I decided to turn my regrets into a roadmap for success as an Authorpreneur and move from frustration to fulfillment.

What mattered was not the last innings but my next innings. That’s when I made the decision to Write and Retire Right by age 50 and go the extra mile with books.

To write and Retire Right (WRR) meant doing fruitful and fulfilling work and being financially fit at age 60/65 using books as my primary platform.

It meant becoming an Authorpreneur (an author who leverages books to create multiple income streams beyond book sales).

Prior to this decision, I had heard about a retirement movement called 20booksto50K by Michael Anderle, in which he found that if he had 20 books each selling at US$7.50, he could earn $50K annually and retire in Cabo.

I decided to have 20 books for 2020 as part of my plan to move from nominal to phenomenal. I knew that to get extraordinary results, I needed to do something extraordinary.

So, I became the Rocket-Writer (writing 20 books in one year).

My intention was to use these books to establish my authority as a publishing expert and multiply my impact and increase my income. I would publish these books on a budget and then leverage this body of work for transformation and then help others to replicate my process.

So, between ages 40 and 42, I went from having 4 published books in 2018, to having 27 published books, including the book, “Write and Retire Right” and launching several book-based initiatives.

The Results in Two Years

  • Helping over 20 freelancers to earn an income online
  • Helping at least 50 authors to earn an income from writing and book publishing initiatives.
  • Assisting tertiary students with education scholarships
  • Financial stability for myself
  • Funding my doctoral studies
  • Renewing my life and health insurance policies
  • Opening a retirement account.

I am now confidently moving towards the future as I seek to Write and Retire Right and help others to do likewise.

You don’t need 20 books to do it, only ONE.

Although I have 27 published books, only one book has been the primary driver of my income- Authorpreneur Secret$ .

The Process

Consider this: How many books would you need to sell to make US$4,700 or US$47,000 dollars with the 70% royalty Amazon offers for an ebook of $9.99? Or consider the 60% royalty on a book priced at US$19.99.

It would take thousands of sales to do that. But if you write and publish a small non-fiction book on a budget and develop a product or service around it, you can get there faster.

The best kind of book to do this would be a small non-fiction book of 10,000 -30,000 words with your story, expertise, life experiences and life lessons.

You would then publish it on a budget and leverage it to create multiple income streams.

There are 30+ Income streams possible with a book.

For example, I converted my book “Authorpreneur Secret$” into a least five different income streams with different price points ranging from US$47 – US$1500. With just a few clients at the highest price point, I could make US$4700 quicker than trying to merely sell the book by itself.

If this scenario or my story appeals to you, I am looking to raise up 10,000 Authorpreneurs by 2030, who will take on the challenge of writing and retiring right.

Will you join the movement?

To get started, get my “Rocket Writing” ebook for free, which teaches you how to write a non-fiction book in 24 hours or 30 days.

Life certainly has changed, since 2015, for both of us! So happy that you are doing well. God has blessed you in so many ways.
I first retired in 1996, at the age of 49. As you remember I left the University after 25 years to join OM. Exactly 20.5 years later I retired again. On February 1, 2017 Connie and I arrived in “Heaven’s Waiting Room” also known as Central Florida! We moved Connie’s 83 year-old Mama with us to Ocala and almost lived happily ever after. Mama died on December 3 and we had a graveside service just 3 miles SW of Atlanta’s airport terminal and I “preached” her funeral.
We still miss her terribly but we know where she is. Praying you get to meet her someday when you arrive in Glory❗️
After the funeral we hung around and had a chance to spend some time with Margie Janowski. She is doing well.
Stay strong. Remain close to our Savior and enjoy life, Cameka.
    Love from Rob and Connie

OMG! Hi Rob! It’s been a while. I get so many spam messages I almost deleted this. Thanks for reaching out. I remember you. Thanks for helping me to catch up. I have not kept up since Henry’s passing.

      I’ll email you.

      Cheers,
